In Australia, most skilled migration or work visas are guided by the Skilled Occupation Lists. While there used to be one main list, there is now three distinct lists that may be consulted for skilled visas and to make things more confusing – states and territories will sometimes create their own list dependent on what is happening in that location.
So, how do you make the skilled occupation lists work for you? Well, firstly you need to know what they do.

This is a general overview of the occupation lists and what they offer. There are other regional visa options that are not considered in this table including the Subclass 494 and Subclass 491. These visas are regional temporary work visas, which may offer access to a regional permanent visa in the future.
